Between exiting the study and storming towards the transitional kitchen, Pak Zhenwei swore. He had a papercut.
“THEODORE! WHAT’S THIS HORSESHIT?!” his voice reverberated in the hallway and shook paintings and wall sconces.
He already had to deal with Koa–dumbass punched his teammate–and Axel–who didn’t show up to work for almost two weeks–now this?!
The Head of Staff appeared behind him with a Band-Aid. “Good morning, Sajangnim. Samonim selected a PR agency this morning.”
…Didn’t explain why his ma didn’t return his calls. With the contract tucked under his arm, he cracked his neck and tended to his cut. His anger didn’t go away, but an explanation tempered it. “I’m signing for her?”
“Yes. I’ll coordinate the interviews. I recommend hosting them in the parlour.”
He stopped. Interviews? Here?! “What?!”
Theodore stayed silent while Zhenwei skimmed the too thick of a bundle. The agency promised full strategies, press releases, interviews, and other garbage. His eyes widened when he saw the names and at brake neck speed, whipped his gaze to Theodore. “Women?!”
“…Yes, the VP of Strategy and Operations. Samonim selected her.”
The world tilted. His vision flecked with white spots. His gut churned. To risk women in the manor to prove his family wasn’t culpable? To prove Ammon’s innocence?
“Theo–”
“My apologies for interrupting. May I continue my recommendations?” Theodore asked. Zhenwei hardened his jaw and nodded. “Interviews should only occur in the early morning. 30 minutes each. Only 3 a day. The agency will travel as necessary.”
Zhenwei resumed his walk.
He listened to the silence. When he arrived at the transitional kitchen, he dropped the contract on the counter. He glanced at the back garden, where Ammon–his co-guardian–sat alone.
Zhenwei sighed, took the pen Theodore offered, and signed the contract.
